What would you do if a bunch of black Mercedes SUV’s showed up in your little town claiming to be “your” police force?
That’s what happened in Hardin, MT.
American Police Force officials showed up in Mercedes SUV’s that had “Hardin Police” stenciled on the vehicles. The twist, the city of Hardin doesn’t have a police department.
As it stands now the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Department is contracted to patrol the city and APF has no jurisdiction.
Why these guys haven’t already been arrested for impersonating real police officers is beyond me. Supposedly the “City of Hardin Police Dept” was just written on some decals that were later removed, but some people are justifiably weirded out by the whole thing.
Apparently this private security company has leased a 400-bed jail in Hardin, MT that was built and never used. American Police Force has the option to build a law enforcement training facility on the site, but it is not completely clear on what it actually plans to do with it. They will be paying the town $2 million a year to lease the detention facility.
It’s also not clear where APF is getting their money from. They have no known clients but claim to have helped foreign governments to combat terrorism.
In a strange twist on this story, the company calling itself the American Police Force has a logo that looks like a lot like a Serbian coat of arms. What’s up with that?
Update (Oct 2): Here some smart Internet sleuths seem to have determined that the American Police Force is run by the XE, the mercenary outfit Formerly Known As Blackwater. Why am I not surprised?
Just visiting the website of the American Police Force gives me the creeps.
